My Rental House is an independent site for renters. We take the questions renters run into most — but rarely find a clear answer to — like how much rent you can afford, how to read a lease, how to get your deposit back, and what you actually need to buy for a new place, and turn them into plain-English guides and free tools so you can make decisions with a little more confidence.

Why this site exists

Renting is how most people set up their first home, but it's full of details that cause stress: What's a safe amount of rent to sign up for? What am I agreeing to in this lease? How do I make sure I get my security deposit back? What do I really need to buy, and what can wait? The information is scattered across the web, often out of date, and frequently written in a way that's harder to follow than it needs to be.

Our goal is to gather that scattered information into one place, explain it clearly, and pair it with simple tools — like our rent budget calculator — that turn vague worries into concrete numbers and steps.

How we try to keep it trustworthy

Getting renting information wrong can genuinely hurt someone, so we hold ourselves to a few rules:

· We keep it general where the law varies. Tenant rules differ by state and country, so instead of stating one place's rules as universal, we explain the principles and point you to check your local law and your own lease.
· We write for real people. Clear, practical language over jargon — the aim is that you can actually use what you read.
· We fix mistakes. If you spot something wrong or out of date, please tell us and we'll correct it.

Advertising & affiliate disclosure

To keep the site free and running, we display third-party ads (such as Google AdSense) and use affiliate links, including the Amazon Associates program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. If you buy something through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

We choose what to recommend based on what's genuinely useful, and these partnerships don't change how we present information. For details on data and cookies, see our Privacy Policy.
